Advance, cancel or reopen a task and read its status history
The Progress panel on the task page shows the status of the task and the buttons that change it.
Requirements: the Edit Any Task permission, or an assignment to the task. Other team members see the status but no buttons.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| To Do | Created and not yet started. A new task starts here. |
| In Progress | Currently being worked on. |
| Done | Completed and recorded. |
| Cancelled | Cancelled and will not proceed. |
A message such as Marked in progress appears and the status badge changes.
Select Cancel to close the form without a change. The task records the result, the summary and the completion date. The Completed column of the task list shows the date.
Select Cancel to close the form without a change.
Reopening a Done task clears its result, its summary and its completion date.
A reason is required for two moves. One is a move to Cancelled. The other is a move out of Done or Cancelled. The button stays disabled until the reason has text. Other moves need no reason.
Each entry shows the old and the new status, the reason when one exists, the name of the author and the date. The first entry reads Created as To Do. The newest entry is first.
The task list changes the status of selected tasks in one step. A move that needs a reason opens a dialog that asks for one reason for the whole selection. A bulk move to Done records no result and no summary. See Find and filter tasks.
A status change creates the notification Task status changed. The recipients are the team members assigned to the task and the team members who follow the task. The team member who makes the change does not receive it. The default delivery is the in-app feed only.
The bell button at the start of the actions of the task page follows or unfollows the task. Its label is Follow or Following. The message Now following this record. or No longer following this record. confirms the change. Every team member may follow a task, without any permission.
