Profit & Loss

Introduction

Revenue, costs and net profit of the dealership over a chosen period, counted on the day the money moved

The Profit & Loss page reports how the dealership performed over a period. It is the first entry of the Finance group and opens at the address of the group.

Requirements

The permission Financial Records Access is required. The page is closed to staff by default. A team member without the permission is sent back to the dashboard.

Cash basis

The report counts money on the day it moved. It does not match a cost to the sale of the car.

  • A car bought in March and sold in June places its whole purchase price in March.
  • A payment counts on its ledger date and not on the date of the deal.
  • Awaiting amounts are not counted until they are completed.
  • All figures use the dealership currency. Each foreign entry is converted at the rate stored with it.

A month of gross profit therefore shows the money that moved in that month. It does not show the margin of the cars that left the lot.

The figures

FigureCalculation
RevenueThe sum of all money in. All five Revenue categories count.
Direct CostsThe sum of money out in the eight Direct Costs categories.
Operating CostsThe sum of money out in the seven Operating Costs categories.
Net ProfitRevenue minus Direct Costs minus Operating Costs.

The categories are listed in the guide on transactions. A negative Net Profit is a loss and is shown as a negative figure.
