# Transaction Templates (https://docs.carlio.app/docs/settings/transaction-templates)

Save the usual amounts of a sale as a template, edit and delete templates, and apply a template to a car or a deal

A transaction template lists the amounts that a sale of one kind is made of, for example a car price and a service fee. Applying a template to a car or a deal records one awaited amount for each line.

**Requirements:** The page needs the permission to update transactions. By default, the owner and managers hold this permission. Other members are redirected to the dashboard.

## Create a template [#create-a-template]

1. Open **[Settings](https://carlio.app/dashboard/settings)**, then **[Transaction Templates](https://carlio.app/dashboard/settings/transaction-templates)**.
2. Select **New Template**. The dialog **New Template** opens.
3. Fill **Name**. The name holds at most 60 characters.
4. Optionally, fill **Description**.
5. In the list **Lines**, fill **Line name** on the first line.
6. Choose a **Category**. The category list has two groups, **Amount In** and **Amount Out**. The group of the category sets the direction of the line.
7. Choose the amount rule with the selector at the start of the **Amount** field. Then fill the amount.
8. Select **Add Line** for each further line. A template holds at most 20 lines.
9. Select **Save Template**.

The toast **The template has been saved.** confirms the change. The template appears as a card with its lines.

## The three amount rules [#the-three-amount-rules]

| Rule | What the line records | Entry in the **Amount** field |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| **Fixed amount** | The same figure every time | An amount in the currency of the dealership |
| **Share of the sale price** | A percentage of the sale price of the deal | A percentage up to 100, with at most two decimals |
| **Entered when applied** | A figure typed when the template is applied | None. The field shows **On Apply**. |

On the template card, the amount of each line reads as the figure, as "10% Of Sale", or as **On Apply**.

## Edit, order and delete [#edit-order-and-delete]

1. Select the pencil button on the template card. The dialog **Edit Template** opens.
2. Change the name, the description or any line.
3. To change the order, select the menu on the line and choose **Move Up** or **Move Down**.
4. To delete a line, select the menu on the line and choose **Remove**.
5. Select **Save Changes**. The toast **The template has been updated.** confirms the change.

To delete a template, select the bin button on the card. Select **Delete** to confirm or **Keep** to cancel. The toast **The template has been deleted.** confirms the deletion.

Deleting a template does not remove amounts that were already recorded from it.

## Where templates are used [#where-templates-are-used]

Templates are applied on the page of a car and on the page of a deal.

1. Open a car or a deal.
2. In the card **Awaiting**, select **Apply Template**.
3. In the field **Template**, select a template. The dialog previews every line with its resolved amount.
4. Clear the checkbox of any line that should not be recorded.
5. Fill the amount of each line that shows **Needs Input**.
6. Optionally, change the currency of a line in the amount field.
7. Select **Apply**.

A toast reports the result, for example "2 expected amounts added". Each line becomes a row in the card **Awaiting**.

Applying a template resolves the lines as follows:

* A **Share of the sale price** line takes its amount from the sale price of the deal.
* An **Entered when applied** line in the category **Car Purchase** takes its amount from the purchase price of the car, when the car has one.

The card **Awaiting** offers **Apply Template** only to team members who may record amounts. The dialog shows the text "Templates are created under Settings, in Transaction Templates." when no template exists.

## Notes [#notes]

* A template needs a name and at least one line. Every line needs a name. Lines with a fixed amount or a share need an amount above zero.
* The template editor has no field for a default payment method.
