# Billing (https://docs.carlio.app/docs/settings/billing)

Check plan usage, change the plan, download invoices and cancel the subscription

The billing section shows the plan of the dealership, the usage against the plan limits and the billing history. It also changes or cancels the plan.

**Requirements:** Only the owner may open **Billing**. The section does not appear in the menu for other roles. A direct visit by another role returns to the dashboard.

## Review the plan and usage [#review-the-plan-and-usage]

1. Open **[Settings](https://carlio.app/dashboard/settings)** and select **[Billing](https://carlio.app/dashboard/settings/billing)**.
2. Read the card **Current plan**. It shows the plan name, the status and the monthly amount.
3. Read the date after **Renews On**. The label reads **Cancels On** when a cancellation is scheduled.
4. Read the section **Usage**.

The status is **Active**, **Canceling** or **Past Due**. Each meter shows the used amount, the limit and a percentage.

| Meter | Counts |
| ------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| Vehicles Added (Monthly) | Cars added in the current month. Hidden without a limit. |
| Storage | Space in use against the storage limit. |
| Team Members | Members plus pending invitations. Hidden without a limit. |
| Tracked Shipments | Shipments under live tracking. |

The bar is amber from 80 percent of the limit. It is red at the limit and above.

## Change the plan [#change-the-plan]

1. In the section **Change plan**, find the plan to use.
2. Select **Switch to** followed by the plan name. Each card carries the badge **Upgrade** or **Downgrade**.
3. Read the dialog. It shows the current plan, the new plan, the monthly difference and the limits of the new plan. It states that the change is prorated and applies immediately.
4. Select **Upgrade to** or **Downgrade to** followed by the plan name. Select **Keep current plan** to stop.

The message "The plan has been changed to" followed by the plan name appears.

<Callout type="warn">
A change to a plan with fewer team members than the dealership has is blocked. The dialog reports
**The team exceeds this plan** and offers **Manage Team**. Remove members or cancel pending
  invitations first.
</Callout>

When current usage is above a limit of the new plan, the dialog reports **This plan is below current usage**. The change is still possible. The consequences are as follows.

* Storage: existing files stay. No further file can be uploaded until space is released.
* Vehicles: no further car can be added until the next month begins.
* Tracked shipments: current tracking continues until delivery. No further shipment can be tracked until the count falls below the limit.

## Download an invoice [#download-an-invoice]

The section **Billing history** lists each order with **Date**, **Description**, **Amount** and **Status**. Select **Invoice** in a row to open the document of a paid order. An order that is not paid shows **Not available**. Before the first payment, the section shows **No invoices yet**.

## Update the payment method [#update-the-payment-method]

Select **Payment and Invoices** in the card **Current plan**. The dashboard opens the payment portal. A past due plan shows the message "Payment is past due. Access requires an update of the payment method."

## Cancel or resume the subscription [#cancel-or-resume-the-subscription]

1. Select **Cancel subscription**.
2. Read the dialog. Access continues until the end of the current period.
3. Select **Confirm cancellation**. Select **Keep plan** to stop.

The status changes to **Canceling**. Before the period ends, select **Resume Subscription** to keep the plan.

## Notes [#notes]

* A plan that is managed outside the application shows the notice "A change requires the payment portal." The change and cancel controls stay disabled. The payment portal changes the plan instead.
* A dealership without an active subscription sees the list **Select a plan**. Each plan has a **Choose** button that starts the purchase.
