# Cash Flow Chart (https://docs.carlio.app/docs/profit-and-loss/read-the-cash-flow-chart)

Read money in, money out and the net result across the reporting period

The **Cash Flow** chart shows how money moved over the reporting period. It sits between the tiles and the breakdowns.

## Requirements [#requirements]

The permission **Financial Records Access** is required.

## Steps [#steps]

1. Open **[Profit & Loss](https://carlio.app/dashboard/finance)** in the **Finance** group of the sidebar.
2. Choose a period with the **Reporting period** menu.
3. Read the three figures above the chart: **Net**, **In** and **Out**.
4. Hover over a bar to see the values of that day, week or month.

## What the chart shows [#what-the-chart-shows]

| Element | Meaning |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| Bars above the zero line | **In**, the money received |
| Bars below the zero line | **Out**, the money paid |
| The line | **Net**, which equals **In** minus **Out** for each bar |

The figures above the chart cover the whole period. **Net** is shown in red when it is negative.

The tooltip names the day, the week or the month. For a week it reads **Week of** followed by the first day of the week.

## Bar size [#bar-size]

The size of a bar depends on the period.

| Period | Each bar covers |
| ------------------------------------ | ------------------ |
| **Last 7 Days** and **Last 30 Days** | One day |
| **Last 90 Days** | One week |
| **Last 12 Months** | One calendar month |

Every bar in the period is drawn, including bars with no money.

## Notes [#notes]

* Entries are placed on the day they occurred in the time zone of the dealership.
* The chart uses amounts in the dealership currency.
* For **Last 12 Months**, the first month is charted in full. The first bar can therefore include days before the start of the period.
* With no movement, the chart shows **No Transactions Yet** and suggests a longer period.
* The dashboard overview uses the same chart.
