Create, copy, send, replace and delete the link to the page of a customer



The customer page lets a customer follow cars, payments, documents and invoices without an account. The link to the page is created on the page of the customer in the dashboard.

**Requirements:** permission to issue customer portal links (**Issue Customer Portal Links**). The owner and manager roles hold it by default.

## Create the link [#create-the-link]

1. Open the page of the customer. Open **[Customers](https://carlio.app/dashboard/customers)** in the sidebar and select the customer.
2. Find the **Customer Portal** panel in the side column.
3. Select **Create link**.

The dashboard shows the message "Portal link created". The panel now shows the button **Open Portal** and the expiry date in the row **Expires**. The link is valid for 180 days.

## Copy or send the link [#copy-or-send-the-link]

1. In the **Customer Portal** panel, open the menu with the three dots.
2. Optional: select **Language** and choose a language. The default entry **Their language** lets the page follow the language that the visitor used before, or the language of the browser. A chosen language fixes the page language for this link.
3. Select **Copy link** to copy the link. The dashboard shows "Link copied".
4. Or select **Send on WhatsApp**. WhatsApp opens in a new tab with the message "Track your car, payments and documents here" and the link. The message goes to the phone number of the customer when the customer record holds one. Otherwise WhatsApp offers its own sharing dialog.

The language choice affects only the copied or sent link. It does not change the customer record.

## Open the page [#open-the-page]

Select **Open Portal** to open the page in a new tab. The page shows what the customer sees. The guide [Review what the customer page shows](/docs/portals/review-the-customer-page) describes it.

## Replace the link [#replace-the-link]

1. Open the menu with the three dots.
2. Select **Change Link**.

The dashboard shows "Portal link rotated". The new link is valid for 180 days. The old link stops working at once. Use this action when a link reached the wrong person.

## Delete the link [#delete-the-link]

1. Open the menu with the three dots.
2. Select **Delete**.

The dashboard shows "Portal link revoked". The page stops opening. The panel offers **Create link** again.

  Anyone who holds the link can view the cars, payments and documents of the customer. Send the link
  only to the customer. Use **Change Link** or **Delete** when the link was shared by mistake.

## Notes [#notes]

* The panel states "Anyone holding this link can view the customer's cars, payments and documents." while a link exists.
* After the expiry date, the page shows "Link not valid". Select **Change Link** to issue a new link.
* The messages that the customer writes on the page appear in the **Messages** tab of the customer page. Replies are written in the field **Reply to the customer…** and appear on the shared page.
* The documents that the customer uploads appear in the **Documents** tab of the customer page.
