# Record Shipments (https://docs.carlio.app/docs/exports/record-a-shipment) Enter the carrier, the shipping references, the route and the dates of a car A shipping record holds the freight details of one car. The record places the car in the exports list. **Requirements:** permission to update cars. ## Steps [#steps] 1. Open the shipping form from one of these places. * On the **[Exports](https://carlio.app/dashboard/exports)** page, select **Add Shipping**. Choose the car in the **Vehicle** field. The field searches by make, model or VIN. * On the car page, select **Add Shipping** in the **Shipping** panel. The panel appears when the car reaches the **Loaded To Freight** status, or earlier when a record already exists. * Move a car to **Loaded To Freight**. The dashboard then opens the form at once. Closing the form skips the entry. 2. In **Shipping line**, choose a line from the list. The list searches by name or SCAC code. See [Supported shipping lines](#supported-shipping-lines). Choose **Other carrier, entered manually** for a carrier that is not listed, then enter the **Carrier name**. 3. Enter the **Bill of lading**, the **Booking number** and the **Container number** when they are known. 4. Enter the **Vessel or truck**, the origin in **From**, the destination in **To**, the **Departed** date and the **Arrives** date. 5. Optional: enter a **Tracking number** and a **Tracking link** under **Other carrier tracking**. Use these for a carrier whose own page is the only source of updates. 6. Optional: enter an internal **Note**. 7. Set the portal visibility. The switch reads **Visible to Customer** or **Hidden from Customer**. 8. Select **Save**. ## Result [#result] The dashboard shows the message "Shipping details saved". The car appears in the exports list. The **Shipping** panel on the car page shows the carrier, the references, the route and the dates. ## Notes [#notes] * Every field is optional. A record can be completed over several days. * The **Arrives** field holds the carrier estimate, not the handover date. * A warning appears under **Container number** when the check digit does not match. The record can still be saved. * A new container number loads the car into the open container with that number. The dashboard creates the container when none exists. A cleared number leaves the car in its container. * The **Tracking link** is shown to the customer as a link. The **Note** is never shown to the customer. * The **Visible to Customer** setting controls whether the customer portal shows the shipment. The switch in the header of the **Shipping** panel changes the setting without opening the form. * Select **Edit Shipping** in the **Shipping** panel, or in the actions menu of a row in the exports list, to change a record. Select **Remove** in the form of an existing record to delete the shipping record. The deletion also ends shipment tracking for that car, unless another car shares the reference. The car leaves its container list as well. ## Supported shipping lines [#supported-shipping-lines] The **Shipping line** list holds the following 215 lines. The **Code** column shows the code beside each name in the list. The **Live tracking by** column shows the references that the **Track by** setting accepts for the line. A line marked **Not available** can be recorded but not tracked.
