# Archive and Delete (https://docs.carlio.app/docs/customers/archive-or-delete-a-customer)

Remove a customer from the active list or delete a record created by mistake

Archive a customer who is no longer active. Delete a customer only when the record was created by mistake.

**Requirements:** The customer update permission to archive or restore, and the customer delete permission to delete. The Owner and Manager roles hold both.

## Archive or restore a customer [#archive-or-restore-a-customer]

1. Select **[Customers](https://carlio.app/dashboard/customers)** in the sidebar.
2. Open the row menu of the customer.
3. Select **Archive**. To bring an archived customer back, select **Archived** next to **Status** and select **Restore** in the row menu.

The toast **Customer archived** or **Customer restored** confirms the change. The customer page offers the same **Archive** and **Restore** buttons. An archived customer shows the word **Archived** under the name.

An archived customer leaves the default list. The record keeps its deals, notes, documents and messages.

## Delete a customer [#delete-a-customer]

1. Open the row menu of the customer.
2. Select **Delete**.
3. In the dialog **Delete** and the customer name, select **Delete customer**.

The toast shows the customer name followed by **was deleted**.

## Change several customers at once [#change-several-customers-at-once]

1. Select the checkbox of each customer in the list.
2. Select **Archive** or **Restore** in the bar that shows the number of selected customers. The button reads **Restore** when every selected customer is archived.
3. For a deletion, select **Delete** and confirm.

A toast reports the customers that changed and the customers that could not change.

## Notes [#notes]

* A customer with deals cannot be deleted. The message reads **This customer has deals. Archive them instead so the history is kept.**
* A deletion cannot be undone.
* In a bulk deletion, customers with deals are kept and reported.
